How important is Page Ranking

Hi everyone. I am currently in the process of working out why traffic to my site has dropped dramatically over the past 6 weeks or so. In some cases this has been as much as an 80% reduction.

First question is how important is Page ranking and how does that affect a website ranking in a web search.

One site currently has a page ranking of 3.Other sites with a ranking of only 2 rank higher in search results.

So just how important is page ranking

It's easy to get caught up in the "ranking game"; to obssess over every little jump or decline your site might take in the search engine results. I do it myself from time to time. However, I've learned that building a great site is like a marathon, and not a sprint: it takes a lot of time and perserverance to get to where you want to go.

As my point of view page rank is important but SERPs Ranking and traffic is more important i.e. Inbound links important.

page ranking is just one factor in many taken into consideration for serps. there are many on and off site/page factors that influence your standings in search results. perhaps these pages will help and give some useful info - backlinks that are high quality and relevant with good anchor text is certainly one of the more significant factors i believe in good rankings....

PR is important if you want your site to be in the first page of google. but it's not really important if you consider making money with your web. Traffic is more important.

I think Page Rank is to show impression that depends on internal linking of website, content of web page, and lot more things. Ranking on concerned keywords is more important for getting desired and pre matured traffic towards your website.There are lots of concept to implement the same.

PR has nothing to do with the Traffic the only thing it helps is in the Link building, the traffic may have fallen because of the search result you were having before, to get more traffic you should do more directory submission with some book marking, article and press release submission.

PR is only a figure and cannot do a miracle to a website ranking by itself. It was effective on rankings in the past but not that poweful nowadays.

As for how important Page Rank is...I would say, it's only as important as Google is. Or, more specifically, it's only as important as Google is to your website!
Google ranks websites based on a scale from 0 to 10, measuring the "importance" of websites. There are people who make an entire career out of analysing Google's analysis, and explaining to people what their page rank means, and how to increase it. I'm not one of those people.

It all depends on the keywords you enter in the Google's search bar..If you are giving the keyword which has more back links, then the result will be on the top..then the other which has less back links.....!
